Glycolic acid

Glycolic acid is a colourless, odourless and hygroscopic crystalline liquid which is highly water-soluble. It is a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from sugar maye. It is one of the most widely used AHAs in skin care products. It is the simplest and smallest in structure and has the least molecular weight. They consist of tiny molecules that are very easy for the skin to absorb. Glycolic acid, when applied to the skin, breaks the bond between the outer layer of skin cells and the subsequent skin cell layer which removes dead cells. The process is known as chemical peeling or exfoliation. It creates a peeling effect and gives the appearance of a smoother and more even skin.
